Lots of Indonesian women have been blasphemed by the public nowadays for what we choose to wear which is considered inappropriate, and it is quoted as “a disgrace in the eyes of our ancestors”. It is also common for me to experience people telling me that I am not from the West and that my culture requires me to cover my body. By mimicking the style of vintage portraits of Balinese women from the early 20th century, I would love to bring up again the original Indonesian culture, which is the opposite of what society is referring to.
